Faye Floyd, whose son Brad Marley graduated from Grimsley in 1996, is quite happy with her career path. Having been passionate about photography since she was in her twenties, Floyd utilizes her talents by offering services for family portraits, senior photographs, proms, weddings, and bar mitzvahs. In fact, she is excited to be a vendor in the Carolina Wedding Show on February 7th at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Besides operating a camera professionally, Floyd also holds a degree in cosmetology, which she applies by doing hair and makeup for customers in her salon or on location. Her salon, called Focus on You, Inc., is located in northwest Greensboro. For appointments, please call 336-339-4588, or visit www. Focusonyouhairandphotography.com or her Facebook account with the same name.
“I enjoy my work because I can be creative. I love dealing one on one with students, using my abilities to make them look their best,” said Floyd. “I also pride myself on providing long sessions of an hour and a half so my clients do not feel rushed or stressed.”
While Grimsley students have their school photos taken by Lifetouch, Floyd wants students and parents to know that there are other successful photography studios who offer similar services. Though the school yearbook is under contract with Lifetouch, some parents and students may still want other photos taken for their personal collections of high school memories.
For students and parents interested in working with Floyd, the following information covers costs:
$200 includes 1 ½ hours of portrait time, two changes of clothes during the session, two 8 x 10s, two 5 x 7s, and an edited CD with printing rights of at least 25 images.
$300 includes everything above PLUS hair and makeup services.
Floyd’s son Brad Marley is also pursuing his dream, though his career path follows a different tune. Presently, he resides in Nashville, Tennessee, where he is marketing his catalogue of over 400 country/contemporary Christian songs with recording studios and their already successful country artists. Marley looks forward to another new adventure this April when he becomes a father for the first time.
Though Floyd and Marley live miles apart, this mother and son relationship remains strong with deep connections. They talk or text almost every day. Both are very supportive and proud of each other’s accomplishments.
“Most of my friends are his friends, and his friends are my friends,” said Floyd with a smile on her face.
Whether this mother and son spend their time photographing beautiful images or creating magical lyrics and melodies, they certainly are happy with their careers. What can be more satisfying than waking up and going to work in a vocation that they love?
